All About Figure Skating
2024-2025 Figure Skating Overview
The mission of our program is to provide a goal-oriented program that encourages ice skating at all levels and enhances the quality of skating skills.
The GSC Figure Skating program offers a variety of programs including Learn to Skate, Badge Skills, Jump and Spin, Moves in the Field, Power Skating, and Strengthening and Conditioning taught under the guidance of 7 professional Figure Skating coaches
These classes follow the Learn to Skate USA program, as endorsed by U.S. Figure Skating, USA Hockey, and US Speedskating.
The objectives of the program are:
To provide a fun and safe skating experience for the beginner as well as the more advanced skater
To teach correct technique of the simple basic elements
To promote health and physical fitness
To enable all participants to achieve the skills necessary to either skate for fun the rest of their lives or to move competently into the U.S. Figure Skating advanced test and/or competitive structure
Group and private lessons start with boys and girls as early as 3 years old and run through advanced lessons.
We also offer group and private lessons for beginner and intermediate adults
We host the following events as part of the Figure Skating Program:
Annual competition against a local club for all Figure Skaters involved in our programs who have mastered the Basic 2 level of Skating Badge Skills and up.
Annual Year End Show held at GSC for our Figure Skaters and Learn to Skate participants to showcase all that they have learned throughout the season through entertaining, themed performances.
Awards Banquet where Figure Skaters are presented their official USFS badge(s) earned during the season, as well as other special awards. Figure Skaters and parents celebrate the end of the season with dinner and a fun, heart-warming slide show of the GSC figure skating season.
